Almost 100,000 sales if property and land were received for registration by the Land Registry in England and Wales in August, the latest official figures show.

A total of 99,750 registrations took place, up from 95,721 in July and up from 85,493 recorded in June of this year.

Semi-detached houses over took terraced homes as the most popular with 26,430 registrations compared to 26,426 terraced properties, up from 24,964 and 25,554 respectively in July and 22,251 and 23,243 in June.

The data also shows that there were 23,132 detached homes registered in August, up from 21,568 in July and 18,518 in June while flats and maisonettes increased to 17,471 in August, up from 17,368 and 15,678.

Of the 99,765 sales received for registration in August 2018 some 76,239 were freehold, a 2% increase on August 2017, and 11,504 were newly built, a 60% increase on August 2017.

There is a time difference between the sale of a property and its registration at the Land Registry and of the 99,765 sales received for registration, 28,423 took place in August 2018 of which 557 were of residential properties for £1 million and over.

In this price bracket there were 317 in Greater London for £1 million and over six were properties in the West Midlands, and four in Greater Manchester.

The most expensive residential sale taking place in August 2018 was of a detached property in Camden in London for £11,450,000. The cheapest residential sale in August 2018 was a terraced property in Shildon, County Durham, for £21,000.

The most expensive commercial sale taking place in August 2018 was in Tower Hamlets, London for £99,750,000. The cheapest commercial sale in August 2018 was in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, for £150.
